On Sept. 14, Western Kentucky University will honor Eric Yates, an alumnus who was killed in action in Afghanistan, in WKU’s 14th Eric D. Yates Memorial Run.

The 5K run and a 2-mile walk will start at 10 a.m. at Chaney’s Dairy Barn, 9191 Nashville Road, according to a WKU release.

Yates, a 2008 WKU graduate and first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, died on Sept. 18, 2010, when an improvised explosive device detonated close to his patrol in Afghanistan, according to WKU.

Registration is $20. Proceeds will go to the 1LT Eric Yates Scholarship Fund.
