Velma J. Gentry

Velma Jewell Gentry, 92, died Aug. 24, 2008, at Carmel-St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel, Ind.
The Allen County native was born Dec. 28, 1915. She lived in Allen and Warren counties for 42 years and recently lived with her sister in Carmel for seven years. She was a homemaker, a mother, attended high school in Warren County, had a green thumb and loved flowers. She attended Victory Hill Ministries Church in Allen County. Family members will show their love for her through the lovely flowers she cherished. She was a daughter of the late Charles B. Shockley and Daisy Petty Shockley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Hugh Gentry; three sisters; and a brother.
Funeral is at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with burial in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Lee Gentry and his wife, Linda, and James Terry Gentry, all of Allen County; three grandchildren, Maria E. Blackburn, Timothy W. Gentry and James R. Gentry; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jan Bujwit and her husband, Jerry, of Carmel and Mabel Lois Roeser of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
