Warren County Public Schools Board of Education representative Adam Jackson will reapply for a second year on the board and has already registered for the 2024 election, he told the Daily News on Sunday.
Jackson was appointed to represent District 1 in January and will need board approval to return for a second one-year term.
“I’d never done any of this, and just coming on the board and seeing how the school system works and how well (Superintendent) Rob Clayton and the staff he has put together (works) is phenomenal,” Jackson said. “I just want to continue to support him and help any way I can.”
Jackson is a resident of Smiths Grove, works for Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, is father to two daughters and son of State Rep. Kevin Jackson, R-Bowling Green, who preceded him as District 1 board representative.
Jackson said the role he brings to the board differs from that of his father, whose 32 years in education influenced his work. He is currently the youngest board member, which he said offers a unique perspective.
“I’ve been out of high school since 2009, so not awful long ago, but I can still relate to the kids and give that aspect,” Jackson said.
He recalled never knowing who his board representatives were while he was in school and said he prefers when students are familiar with those who oversee the district.
“I want these kids to know that the board is here for you guys – to help students, teachers, anybody,” Jackson said. “I just want to be that person with the faculty, staff and students to say ‘Hey, if you need us, reach out to us, we’re here for you.’ ”
Jackson said he has personally worked with parents and families to help navigate issues within the district and encourages those in need to seek help from the board.
“Never, never hesitate to reach out,” Jackson said. “If I can’t figure it out, or one of my fellow board members can’t figure it out, we will put you on to somebody that will take care of it.”
He said he hopes to continue serving his district and showing that WCPS “is one of the best school systems in the state of Kentucky.”
Applications to fill the District 1 seat until the 2024 election are currently open and available at WCPS central office, 303 Lovers Lane, or online at warrencountyschools.org.
