City firefighters busy with multiple alarms

The Nov. 8, 1959, edition of the Daily News reported that city firemen responded to three alarms over the first 10 hours of the weekend, and to a propane gas storage tank explosion at B.G. Manufacturing Plant No. 2.
The propane explosion was due to a vaporizer attachment used to change liquid propane to gas. A vehicle was damaged in the explosion. One call was a dry run to City-County Hospital, where staff thought they smelled smoke but no fire was found. The other two calls were to private residences where leaves and dry grass caught fire and had to be extinguished.
