On August 7, 1953, the Park City Daily News reported about an escaped convict from Barren County. He was arrested in Chicago after being pulled over for a traffic violation.
To escape from the Barren County jail, the convict sawed through the bars on his cell window and shimmied down to the ground with a rope made from blankets. He had an accomplice to this jailbreak, but that prisoner was caught before he made it to the ground.
After being caught by the Chicago police, the convict was sent back to Kentucky to face trial for his escape.
