On May 8, 1902, the Daily News announced a local baseball game that night between the New England Bloomer Girls and a local team from Southern Normal School.
The game was unprecedented as it was the first local game to be played by electric light. A large crowd was expected and the game “promised to be well worth the price” of 25 cents. The next day, the News reported that over 300 attendees were present at the start of the game and that the local team had won 5-3 after 5 innings, commending both teams for “playing good ball.”
