On Dec. 12, 1931, Mrs. T.E. Webb won first place for her entry in the 18th annual Daily News Jingle contest.

The limerick began with: “Those things that we hang on the tree are as pretty as pretty can be. Buy some new ones this year, they will add to the cheer,” which she finished with, “and St. Nicholas has lowered the fee!”

Her prize was three tickets to the Capitol Theater to see the movie “Once a Lady” featuring the new talkie screen star Ruth Chatterton.
