On Sept. 28, 1939, in the Bowling Galley section, which contains short blurbs, the Daily News nominated a local woman and her sons as the meanest people in the world.

A local man visited the grave of his son daily to water an Easter lily. The day prior to the story, he found only a hole in the ground where the lily grew. Neighbors reported seeing a woman and her two boys digging near the grave but assumed they were relatives of the person interred there.
