The Kiwanis Club of Bowling Green’s Board of Directors announces the cancellation of their annual fireworks’ fundraiser, Thunderfest. This volunteer organization has been active since it was chartered on July 24th, 1923, and currently consists of 110 local members. They are well known for supporting and serving many children’s organizations, are responsible for major community, family, and youthoriented projects. Thunderfest, their annual Independence Day celebration, has been going strong since 1972 and raises funds to provide critical financial assistance for over 30 local nonprofits who provide children’s programs.

“As Kiwanians, our priority is serving the community by putting children, and their families first. In the interest of public health, for the first time in 49 years, we feel it is necessary and appropriate to cancel this years Thunderfest event. We greatly appreciate our sponsors, volunteers and attendees who have made this event successful over the last half of a century and look forward to celebrating, safely, in 2021,” said Danette Idlett, previous Thunderfest Chairperson.
