James G. Buchanan, 100, of BG dies

James Gilbert “Goober” Buchanan, 100, of Bowling Green died at 11:03 p.m. June 16, 2008, at Greenview Regional Hospital.
The Simpson County native was a resident of Bowling Green Retirement Village, a country music entertainer, a musician and a comedian. He worked with several different radio stations as band leader and announcer with vaudeville shows. He was a comedian and character actor. He toured with many radio and TV stars and was commonly known as “Goober.” He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of the National Storytellers, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. He was a son of the late Birt King Buchanan and Elzena Orvis Buchanan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Buchanan; and a cousin, James Edward Buchanan.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, with burial in Hillsdale Cemetery in Simpson County. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
