Austin Peay smacks around Hilltopper pitching in 20-12 slugfest

Austin Peay scored at least two runs in six of its eight innings at the plate Tuesday, pounding Western Kentucky’s baseball team 20-12 in Clarksville, Tenn.

Seven Hilltopper pitchers – Eric Crawford, Jack Lambert, Reese Brewer, Evan Snyder, Maddex Richardson, Dalton Shoemake and Kenny LaPierre – were charged with either two or three runs apiece in the eight-run loss.

Governors shortstop Garrett Kueber went 5-for-6, driving in five runs, scoring four and hitting a home run. APSU outfielder Aaron Campbell collected four RBIs, while second baseman Malcolm Tipler hit a homer.

Richard Constantine made his return to the WKU lineup after missing the past 14 games. He started at designated hitter and in the cleanup spot, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and two scored, as well as his sixth home run and fourth double of the season.

Topper center fielder Jackson Swiney hit two home runs, giving him six for the season. First baseman Matt Phipps also smacked a pair of homers, his second and third of the 2019 season.

Austin Peay (30-20) handed WKU (24-25-1) its third loss in as many days. The Hilltoppers were also swept Sunday in a doubleheader at Louisiana Tech.

WKU closes its 2019 regular season this week at Nick Denes Field with a three-game home series against Old Dominion. First pitch for Thursday’s series opener is 5 p.m.
