Can’t decide what to see this weekend?

Aladdin (C+)

Disney continues to empty the vault with the latest live-action adaptation of a beloved animated film.

While this is better than Disney’s last attempt to update an animated film with “Dumbo” and is not nearly as bad as the disastrous trailer suggests, it is still a film that doesn’t really bring anything new to the source material. Avengers: End Game (A-)

It’s been 22 films over more than a decade in the making, but we’ve finally reached the culmination of the first phase of the Marvel Comics cinematic universe with “Avengers: End Game.”

It seems appropriate to have a film chock full of finality less than a year after the master mind behind it all Stan Lee passed away. This is a swan song that Lee would appreciate – full of bittersweet resolutions and optimistic hints at what lies ahead. It will surely satisfy the fan base in ways that blockbusters of this magnitude rarely do. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10)

Booksmart (A)

Actress Olivia Wilde, in her directorial debut, has crafted a coming-of-age film for the ages that’s anchored by two fantastic lead performances from Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein and a rich and deep supporting cast that includes Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd.

It’s John Hughes meets “Superbad” meets “Dazed and Confused” – a smart and funny experience that’s one of my favorite films of 2019. (Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10)

Brightburn (C)

A horrific spin on the super hero story that takes an interesting premise – exploring the darker side of super powers – and turns it into a pretty basic splatter fest. (Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10)

Dark Phoenix (not reviewed at this time)

A Dog’s Journey (D+)

This sequel to “A Dog’s Purpose” is slightly better than the original, but still has no business being marketed as a family film. (Franklin Drive-In)

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (D)

A dreadfully bloated sequel to the enjoyable 2014 film that skims on the destruction to provide way too much human character development. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10, Highland Cinemas)

John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum (A-)

The latest chapter in the John Wick franchise is a ballet of bloodshed, full of exquisite set pieces that rival the best of the Hong Kong action cinema genre. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10, Highland Cinemas)

Ma (D)

Octivia Spencer gives it her all in this bizarre horror film that has promise before completely jumping the rails in the second half. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Highland Cinemas)

Pokeman Detective Pikachu (C)

Ryan Reynolds can only do so much in this would be franchise film that suffers from an unbearably inept live action cast. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10)

Rocketman (B)

This musical bio chronicling the rise and struggles of Elton John is anchored by an outstanding performance by Taron Egerton – who channels John in ways that Romi Malek never approached in his Academy Award winning turn as Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10, Highland Cinemas)

The Secret Life of Pets 2 (C)

This sequel to the 2016 hit desperately attempts to capture the magic of the original, it just never quite clicks – a muddled mess that will likely keep the attention of its younger audience but will have the adults drifting away. (Regal Bowling Green Stadium 12, Regal Greenwood Mall Stadium 10, Highland Cinemas, Franklin Drive-In)
