After 25 years of singing gospel music, the Singing Seniors will honor their leader, Roy Lee Carrier, at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Cave Mill Baptist Church, 1441 Cave Mill Road.
This is the same location where their first singing was held.
Carrier said God spoke to him 25 years ago about forming a group of Christian friends to sing gospel music at churches and nursing homes. He said he felt the group would prosper if God was in it. Members agreed that they have had an inspirational leader who not only has held things together, but also attended almost every singing, and has written many songs.
The Singing Seniors have sung in various facilities in Warren County. They met weekly as a “practice session” at Greenwood Nursing Home. They also have sung on a regular basis at Chandler Park, Massey Springs, Morningside Retirement Village and Brownsville Nursing Home. They have also sung frequently in Glasgow at NHC, Highland Ridge Assisted Living, Diversicare and Signature.
The group has been blessed to have been invited into many churches and has made several recordings. They have precious memories of many previous members who have already left this world to sing in a better place.
The group is sad that this will be their last singing together because of some health concerns of Carrier and other members, but they are thankful and rejoicing they have shared lots of good spiritual times together.
This last singing program will only be a few songs that Carrier has written, but it will give more time for those attending to express their thanks for all he has done to promote gospel music.
