Russellville withstands Bears’ comeback for 17-13 win

Host Russellville built a 17-point halftime lead but had to withstand Butler County’s second-half comeback for a 17-13 win Friday.

The Panthers grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two long touchdown passes by Jacob Naylor to Ryan Flores, first an 81-yarder and then a 51-yard strike.

Hunter McDowell’s 26-yard field goal in the second quarter gave Russellville (2-1) a 17-0 halftime lead.

Butler County (0-3) rallied in the third quarter as Bears quarterback Bryar Beasley connected with Dawson Carroll on an 8-yard touchdown pass. Later in the quarter, Beasley scored on a 2-yard touchdown run.

Beasley was 7-of-19 passing for 88 yards. Warren Cameron led the Bears with three catches for 53 yards. Ethan Lawrence paced Butler County with 64 rushing yards. Flores had two catches for 132 yards and two scores, and Russellville’s Edward Barber had 81 rushing yards.

For the Panthers, Naylor was 4-of-14 passing for 162 yards and two TDs.

Russellville visits Logan County on Friday. Butler County hosts Apollo on Friday.

Logan County 46, Breckinridge County 0

Host Logan County piled up 370 yards of total offense en route to shutting out Breckinridge County 46-0 on Friday.

The Cougars ran for 251 yards, led by Gary Hardy’s 115-yard effort with a touchdown. Quarterback Tyler Ezell added 78 rushing yards and a score, and Third Bell and Carson Bradley also had rushing touchdowns.

Ezell was 4-of-9 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown, an 86-yard scoring strike to Tristan Blake.

Logan County (3-0) also scored a defensive touchdown when Zach Yates recovered a fumbled interception return by Caden McKinnis for the touchdown. The Cougars added a safety on a blocked punt.

Logan County hosts Russellville on Friday.

Glasgow 37,

Fort Campbell 0

Nick Mitchell rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns as host Glasgow pitched a 37-0 shutout over Fort Campbell.

Glasgow quarterback Tanner Abernathy completed 6-of-11 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Abernathy also ran for 48 yards and a score.

Defensively for the Scotties, Thad Dial returned an interception for a touchdown, Ryan Jones grabbed two interceptions and had five tackles and Darian Johnson finished with six tackles and a sack.

Glasgow (3-0) hosts Allen County-Scottsville on Friday.
