Hot Rods clinch playoff spot

The Bowling Green Hot Rods clinched a playoff spot with an 8-4 win Sunday over Dayton (Ohio) at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

Carl Chester and Moises Gomez homered, and Tobias Myers earned his seventh win of the season as Bowling Green (40-21) clinched the sixth playoff berth in the franchise’s 10-year history. It’s only the second time the Hot Rods have clinched a playoff berth in the first half, with the previous first-half clinch coming in 2011.

Bowling Green, which leads Lansing (Mich.) by one game for the division lead, will look for a four-game sweep when the series at Dayton concludes at 6 p.m. CDT Monday.

Right-hander Austin Franklin (3-2, 3.81) is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods. Right-hander Adrian Rodriguez (3-2, 6.00) is scheduled to start for Dayton.{&end}
