Little League teams start strong at state tourney

The Warren County North 11- and-12-year-old all-stars scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away for a 13-4 win over Corbin in the opening game of pool play at the state tournament in Lebanon on Saturday.
Drake Young was 2-for-5 at the plate with a triple and struck out eight batters in four innings of work.
Wyatt Nesbitt added three hits, including a three-run homer, and Camden Elkins closed the game with three strikeouts.
Warren County North will face Fleming County in pool play at noon CDT on Sunday.

Bowling Green East 11, North Oldham 1, 5 innings
BG East scored six runs in the first and cruised from there in the opening game of pool play.
Grayson Newman and Luke Idlett paced the offense with two hits each, while Matthew Escalara drove in three runs.
Idlett allowed one run and four hits over 4 1/3 innings, with Evan Schallart recording the final two outs.
BG East will continue pool play against Lexington Eastern at 6 p.m. CDT on Sunday.

Bowling Green East 7, Marion County 2
BG East scored in each of the last four innings to take the opener in pool play.
Cameron Obee finished with two hits and two runs scored, while Jackson Lee had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Seven different batters had one RBI.
Four pitchers combined to one-hit Marion County. Griffin Veazey struck out five over 2 1/3 innings, while Lee struck out five over 1 2/3 innings. Lincoln Fowler and Christopher Cohron also pitched in Saturday’s win.
BG East will continue pool play against Ashland American at 2 p.m. CDT on Sunday.
