James Richard Hammonds

BOWLING GREEN – James Richard “Ricky” Hammonds Jr. gained his wings on November 2nd, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his family and his fur babies. The Warren County native was born on July 16th, 1957 to the late James Richard Hammonds Sr. and Nancy Louise Hammonds.
Ricky was a proud graduate of Bowling Green High School class of 1975. He joined the U.S. Army following graduation, He served as a Track and Field Mechanic Sergeant and served in Desert Storm with the 2123rd National Guard. He also worked for the United States Post Office and County Oven Bakery.
Ricky had a true passion for sports, he was an umpire for almost 40 years for youth softball and baseball; he also coached for several years as well. He took great pride as a manager of the American Legion Post 23 Baseball Team in the 70’s and was grateful to be reunited with his former team in the last couple of weeks during the 50th Year Reunion.
He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, the VFW, the American Legion, and the DAV.
In his spare time, Ricky enjoyed playing cards on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Ricky had a wonderful heart and an amazing sense of humor. He would always go out of his way to make someone smile and he never met a stranger; he would take the shirt off of his back to help someone in need. Ricky was an amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend, he loved his family fiercely and they love him.
Along with his parents, Ricky was also proceeded in death by his brother, Steven Neal Hammond; and his father and mother-in-law, Billy and Ruby Guess.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary “Suzy” Hammonds; his daughters, Tiffany Hammonds (Brandon Sloan), Jamie Harper, and Crystal Treichelt; Baily Gene Cardwell, who he thought of as his son; a sister, Brenda Louise Cherry; a brother, Russell Wayne Hammonds; three grandchildren: Teagan Treichelt, Mayla Harper, and Aliviah Sloan; nieces and nephews: Monty Dale Cherry, Amanda Cherry, Scotty Cardwell, James Guess, and Ashton Guess; and several nieces and nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11:00 am at the J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel on Broadway with burial at Archie Newman Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of service.
