Briggs powers South past BG East

Keenan Briggs hit one of four homers as the Warren County South 10-and-11 All-Stars opened with a 20-7 victory over Bowling Green East in the District 1 Tournament on Saturday in Franklin.

It was the first Little League homer for Briggs, who has a congenital upper limb difference – born without a left hand.

“It felt great,” Briggs said. “Once I hit it, I just knew it was going. It was amazing.”

Zack Davis, Connor Cobb and Ethan Reynolds also homered for South.

Charlie Owsley had three hits, while Andrew Coffey and Andrew Milam had two hits each.

11-and-12 All-Stars

Warren County North 5, Franklin-Simpson 4

North opened pool play by holding on to beat host Franklin-Simpson.

Gage Elkins went four innings with four strikeouts and also delivered a home run and two RBIs.

Wyatt Nesbitt went the final two innings with two strikeouts.

Tanner Goad and Grant White had an RBI each.

Logan County 13, Warren County South 10

South’s late rally fell short as Logan County took Saturday’s opening game of pool play.

Elisha Chumney had two homers and four RBIs for WC South. Eli Capps and Brennen Smith also had a home run, while Dalton Sisson and Ethan Gentry had two hits each.

9-and-10 All-Stars

Owensboro Southern 3, Warren County North 0

Warren County North was held to two hits, one each from Hunter Wilson and A.J. Hodge.

Wilson went 4 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing one earned run with six strikeouts.

Late games postponed

The second half of games scheduled to be played on Saturday were postponed due to rain. They will be made up on Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

All other games will be pushed back a day, with the semifinals now scheduled for Wednesday and the finals on Thursday.{&end}{&end}
