Easter is coming, and with that are a number of egg hunts.

A free community Easter egg hunt will be Saturday at South Warren High School’s football field at 8140 Nashville Road. Rain date is Sunday. Registration for children and adults starts at 2 p.m., with the hunt at 3 p.m.

“They’re encouraging adults to register this year more so than in the past,” said Debra Chaney, owner of Chaney’s Dairy Barn, which is a sponsor of the event along with law firm Hughes & Coleman, Warren County Parks and Recreation Department, Warren County ASA and Woodburn Baptist Church Jam City Kids. “There are a bunch of prizes for everybody like bikes and money to purchase extra technology.”

Kids 12 and under get a free scoop of ice cream, Chaney said.

“Last year we did 1,800 free scoops,” she said. “There got to be quite a massive crowd.”

The egg hunt will be divided into 0 to 2 years old, 3 to 4 years old, 5 to 7 years old and 8 to 12 years old, Chaney said.

“We reset the field (after each hunt),” she said. “This gives them plenty of space.”

There will be 30,000 Easter eggs, Chaney said.

“Chaney’s will have 100 golden eggs with special prizes,” she said.

Other activities will include pictures with the Easter bunny and inflatables. Tim Livingston will provide music.

“We give special thanks to South Warren for use of their football field,” Chaney said. “We couldn’t do it without them.”

EasterFest will be April 15 at Bowling Green Ballpark on Eighth Avenue. Gates open at 10 a.m. The free hunts, which will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be divided by age appropriateness.

“There will be four hunts and they will run at the top and bottom of every hour,” said Gregg Farrell, senior pastor at Crossland Community Church, which holds EasterFest.

Simultaneously there will be Easter egg hunts at other towns where there are Crossland campuses. They will be at Barren County High School football field at 507 Trojan Trail in Glasgow, Butler County High School football field at 1147 S. Main St. in Morgantown and Russellville-Logan County Memorial Park at 600 Bobby Sawyer Way.

“There are 110,000 eggs combined,” Farrell said. “It has continued to grow unbelievably year after year after year.”

The event won’t just include the egg hunt. Bikes will be given away in every age group. There will be face painting, blow ups, food and drinks and more, Farrell said.

“There will be every type of activity you can imagine,” he said. “It will be two hours of absolute fun for families and kids of all ages.”

Everyone who attends will be given a free ticket to attend the Hot Rods baseball game, which will be at 2:05 p.m. Thirty minutes after the last pitch, Crossland will hold its first Easter celebration at the ballpark.

“Let’s just take the Gospel to the people. It will be a far more comforting environment for the folks,” Farrell said. “Maybe they’ll hang out and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with us.”

Crossland wants to make it an entire day for the community, Farrell said.

“It’s a great day,” he said. “It’s a very busy day for us, but we love doing it.”
