A white woman in a light colored sweatshirt and blue jeans entered the bank with her face covered by something black in addition to sunglasses. She was also wearing black gloves. She demanded money. A teller complied and she left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, Ward said.

“She did not present a weapon,” Ward said.

The robber also did not make a threat of having a weapon, he said.

No customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery.

Jonathan Glass, who was part of a landscaping crew and his colleague Timothy Cardwell saw a woman with the same description prior to the robbery pacing the parking lot near the bank, which is in the same shopping center as Hobby Lobby.

“We went and ate at Jersey Mikes,” Glass said. “She was walking through the parking lot. …

“She was pacing,” he said.

The men stayed inside the sandwich shop for about 30 minutes and said they saw the woman again after they finished their lunch.

Both men lost sight of her when they began working on the grounds.

About five minutes into trimming weeds, Glass said he looked up and saw the woman, who he described as a short, white woman in a light colored sweatshirt and black gloves looking across Scottsville Road before turning and sprinting out of the parking lot toward Ashley Circle. Minutes later the police arrived, Glass said.

“It’s just crazy,” he said.

Neither man saw the woman carrying anything before running away, and neither man saw her enter or exit the bank.

“I definitely wasn’t expecting this to happen,” Cardwell said.

This is the fourth bank robbery reported in Bowling Green in 2016.

Citizens First Bank, 1805 Campbell Lane, was robbed June 14. Franklin Bank & Trust, 1042 Fairview Avenue, was robbed June 18. Citizens First Bank, 987 Lehman Avenue was robbed July 26.

Ward called the city school system to let administrators know about the robbery which was in close proximity to Bowling Green High School.

City schools spokeswoman Leslie McCoy said the high school’s exterior doors are always locked. Ward notified the school system at 2:04 p.m. that there was no threat to the students.

“I let them know that any threat we believe exists is gone,” Ward said.
