Carter G. Hackney, 72, passed away at his home June 5, 2016.
He was born and raised in Bowling Green but was a longtime resident of Lexington. He is survived by older brother, Peter A. Hackney; nephew Stephen W. Hackney; nieces Leigh A. Hackney and Holly K. Hackney; aunts Suzanne Hackney Nichols and Mary G. Hackney Richie; and cousins Martha M. Hackney Cassidy, Loyd W. Cassidy and Courtney Cassidy.
Carter was a man of many interests and hobbies. One was building construction where he was a jack of all trades. He was fond of music and played the trombone in his high school band, switching to guitar later in life and playing professionally in several bands, one of which was the well-known Magnificent Seven. He also liked to garden and was fond of cats.
Carter was a Vietnam veteran where he served as a medical technician. He was a University of Kentucky graduate and retired from Sanders-Brown Center on Aging where he was an Alzheimer’s researcher.
He will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.
His ashes will be interred in Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, next to cousin Lydia W. Sledge, a favorite family member born less than a month earlier than him. Date of the interment is not available at this time.
