Sherman Kay “Mote” Bates, 74, of Somerset, passed away June 11, 2016, in Somerset after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 29, 1942, son of the late Sherman Taft and Della Mae Burris Bates. He was a retired master plumber, a member of Faith United Methodist Church, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Faith Bates; children Stewart and (Susie) Ennis, Cathy and (Allen) McKee, Tracy Tittle, Angela Bates, Becki and (Jerry) Childers, Beth and (Tim) Beshears, Sonny and (Kim) Long, and Edwin and (Natalie) Sellers; one brother, Douglas and (Sue) Bates; one sister, Carolyn Dick; grandchildren Sean Ennis, Megan and (Phillip) Wheet, Chase and (Katie) McKee, Madison McKee, Tabitha Tittle, Jesse Tittle, David Giambra, Nathan Gevock, Katelyn Smith, Kerri and (Billy Dean) Shelton, Dylan Beshears, Tyler Jackson, Jerrod Childers, Caleb Long, Kylie Long, Parker Sellers, Shelbi Sellers and John McQueen; and great-grandchildren Tythan Lindsey, Jason Giambra, Lilly McKee, Easton Wheet, Kanyon Shelton and Kynlee Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his previous wife, Marcia Bates; a grandson, Michael Ennis; two sisters, Virginia Harris and Lucy Mize; and an infant brother, Earl Benton Bates.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home, with Bro. David Pendley and Bro. G.J. Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Sherman Kay Bates begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
