An offseason acquisition and 11 international players highlight the opening day roster for the Bowling Green Hot Rods announced on Tuesday.

Seven of the international picks will be part of the pitching staff, including Jose Mujica. The right-hander, ranked as the 27th best prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays system according to MLB.com, returns to Bowling Green after going 1-4 with a 4.20 ERA season last year.

The pitching staff also includes 2014 second-round pick and Cincinnati native Cameron Varga, Alexis Tapia, who was traded to the Rays organization in a deal that sent big leaguer Kevin Jepsen to the Twins last year, and  two right-handers who appeared with the Hot Rods last season – Taylor Hawkins and Henry Centeno. Hawkins, a catcher for the Hot Rods last season, converted to a knuckleballer in the offseason.

The offensive side includes third baseman Kevin Padlo – traded to the Rays in the offseason from Colorado as part of the Corey Dickerson deal. The 19-year-old is rated as the 21st prospect in the Rays’ system and is one of five players under the age of 20 on the opening day roster.

He’ll be joined in the infield by a quartet of players taken in the first seven rounds of the 2015 draft – Jake Cronenworth (seventh round), Joe McCarthy (fifth round), Michael Russell (fifth round) and Brandon Lowe (third round). McCarthy, who was a star outfielder on the University of Virginia team that won the NCAA College World Series last year, will be transitioning to the infield with the Hot Rods this season.

Among the outfielders are a pair of teenagers, Zacrey Law and Angel Moreno.

The Hot Rods open the season hosting the Dayton (Ohio) Dragons on Thursday.
