Ray, Young earn first-team All-Mid-South Conference softball honors

A pair of former area high school softball standouts have been named to the 2016 All-Mid-South Conference Softball First Team.
Campbellsville senior infielder Shelby Ray (Glasgow Class of 2012) and Georgetown senior outfielder Sandy Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2012) garnered first-team accolades.
Ray led the Tigers in sacrifice bunts this season with 22 while batting .307 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 20 RBIs. Ray also stole 10 bases in helping Campbellsville win its seven M-SC regular-season title. The top-seeded Tigers opened the double-elimination conference tournament against No. 8 seed Shawnee State (Ohio) on Friday at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green.
Young batted .361 with eight doubles, a triple, six home runs and 33 RBIs for Georgetown. Young also stole 16 bases.
Third-seeded Georgetown (27-19) was set to open conference tournament play Friday against No. 6 Cumberland (Tenn.) in Bowling Green. The double-elimination tournament is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
