INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have made a qualifying offer to former Western Kentucky star tight end Jack Doyle, who is a restricted free agent.
Indy will have the right to match any offer Doyle gets from another team.
The move was generally expected because Doyle’s role in the Colts’ offense had grown steadily since being claimed off waivers from Tennessee on Sept. 1, 2013. Doyle has 35 receptions for 209 yards and three TDs in 47 games.
Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, the Colts’ two primary tight ends, could become unrestricted free agents next week.
Doyle is an Indianapolis native.
