The Price Less IGA inside the Western Gateway Shopping Center in Bowling Green is on its way back.

The 27,120-square-foot store damaged by fire on Sept. 26 will be completely restored inside, said Houchens Industries spokesman Brandon Jones on Friday. The fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a meat case.

“It will be like folks are shopping in a brand-new store,” Jones said of the new Price Less IGA. “We can’t wait to get back open.”

The store’s interior had to be completely gutted. The work should lead to a late spring opening in May or June.

The dry wall was recently ordered, and work should begin in the coming days. Jones said the renovated store will also contain a limited-service deli, a new feature at the 1901 Russellville Road location.

Fried chicken, homemade salads and some cakes and cupcakes will be available. Jones said the Price Less Foods Facebook page has 31,655 followers.

Jones Builders has acquired a building permit for the store work that is valued at $585,275.

Smoke from the fire also damaged the adjacent St. Vincent de Paul store, which has been closed since the fire. It is scheduled to reopen Monday.

In other news, the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday for Home2 Suites by Hilton. 520 Wall St. Parking will be at Candlewood Suites next to the event.

Home2 Suites by Hilton is a extended-stay concept that emphasizes sustainability with the environment, according to the company website.

Its market slogan is “You’re free to you.”
