Barbara Sue Oldham Tichenor

Barbara Sue Oldham Tichenor, 84, of Bowling Green, passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2016, at Christian Health Care in Bowling Green.

Barbara Sue was born in Daviess County on Jan. 29, 1931, to the late Harvey Russell and Ida Louvenia Oldham. Sue was preceded in death by her late husband of 64 years, Ernest Perry Tichenor. She was also preceded in death by son Jon Kevin Tichenor, and a granddaughter, Jamie L. Lyons.

Sue was a retired secretary from Longfellow School in Owensboro. She and her husband operated the Russell Oldham Sunoco Service Station until their retirement in 1992. Sue was an active member at Third Baptist Church in Owensboro, where she served as children’s choir director for a number of years. She and her husband moved to Bowling Green in 1997 and became beloved members of Rich Pond Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Teri L. Heflin (Michael) of Bowling Green; granddaughters Keena D. Smart and Jessica L. Whitaker (Chad); and five great-grandchildren, Austin Smart, Matthew Lyons, Jaymi Smart, Preslea Whitaker and Michael Whitaker.

Funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at the Rich Pond Baptist Church. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Kirby & Son, Lovers Lane chapel, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro with services at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the mausoleum chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made the Alzheimer’s Association at Kaden Tower, Suite 401, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville, KY 40205.
