A new trial date is set for a Bowling Green man suspected in a fatal 2012 shooting.

Joseph Paul Walker, 32, is scheduled to stand trial Feb. 9 in Warren Circuit Court on charges of murder, first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment, according to an order issued Friday.

A pretrial conference is set for Jan. 27.

Walker is accused of shooting DeMarcus Elliott, 34, of Bowling Green, to death Oct. 9, 2012, as Elliott sat in a Cadillac parked in a driveway on Victoria Street.

A passenger in the car, Veronica Mitchell of Bowling Green, was wounded in the incident, leading to the assault charge.

Both front windows and the back driver’s side passenger window were shot out of Elliott’s car.

The Bowling Green Police Department went to the scene after someone called city police to report hearing gunshots.

Authorities say the shooting occurred after a previous conflict between Walker and Elliott.

Walker is serving an 18-year prison sentence on several unrelated cases.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (second offense), fraudulent use of a credit/debit card (more than $500) and second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Those charges resulted from separate 2012 offenses in which Walker was accused of selling ecstasy pills to a confidential informant, found by police in a car containing methamphetamine, Xanax and hydrocodone and defrauding Graham Photography by using a credit card belonging to the business for unauthorized fuel purchases.

The murder case is being prosecuted by special prosecutor Blake Chambers.

Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron’s office was removed from the case after Walker’s initial court-appointed attorney left the Department of Public Advocacy to work in Cohron’s office as an assistant prosecutor.
