An article from December in the Fort Myers (Fla.) News-Press reported that the Western Kentucky men’s basketball team will play in next season’s Gulf Coast Showcase for its 2015-16 exempt tournament in November.
WKU hasn’t officially announced its participation, but Tournament Director Brooks Downing told the Daily News on Thursday that the official field is expected to be released later this month.

The Gulf Coast Showcase, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast, runs from from Nov. 23-25 in Estero, Fla.
The News-Press reported in December that Drake, Duquesne, Weber State and Pepperdine were also among the teams expected to participate.
The event also has an eight-team women’s field competing simultaneously.
It would harmonize well with WKU’s football schedule, as the gridiron Tops play at Florida International on Nov. 21. FIU, which is in Miami, is about 150 miles from the basketball arena in Estero.
It was reported last week that WKU will host Indiana State in nonconference play next season. The Tops also have confirmed road games at Louisville, Belmont and Xavier.
