Doughty has thrown for 4,344 yards and 44 touchdowns this year. He set a program record for career touchdowns and broke single-game WKU records for passing yards and passing touchdowns this season. The Hilltoppers (7-5) play Central Michigan (7-5) in the Bahamas Bowl at 11 a.m. CST Dec. 24.

The Davie, Fla., native came to WKU in 2010 out of North Broward Prep (Fla.) and redshirted his first season.

Doughty became WKU’s starting quarterback under coach Bobby Petrino in 2013 and threw for 2,857 yards and 14 scores while the Hilltoppers went 8-4.

“I think he’s really had an outstanding year,” WKU coach Jeff Brohm said Dec. 1. “To put up the numbers he’s put up is mind-boggling. …. I think he’s put in the hard work. He knows what his strengths are, he’s improved upon his weaknesses. We try to play to his strengths and he understands that. He’s great at distributing the ball to our playmakers. He trusts his offensive line. He leads by example – and he’s a competitor.”

Western Kentucky has six quarterbacks on its roster: Doughty, juniors Troy Jones and Nelson Fishback, sophomore Todd Porter, redshirt-freshman Parker McLeod and freshman Drew Eckels. Doughty and Brohm are scheduled to hold a news conference at 2 p.m. today.
