CMU defense: “Our defensive line has played very well. Our two defensive tackles in particular, Leterrius Walton and Jabari Dean, have been very good.
“We have a middle linebacker, Justin Cherroci, who has played well. Then our secondary, at times, has been very, very good. But I think it all starts up front with our D-line.”
Is it schematics or talent? “I think there’s a little bit of both. I think our defensive coaches do a great job mixing things up on people. But at the end of the day, I wouldn’t say we’re real complicated on that side of the ball, I just think the guys know what gaps they need to be in and they play fundamentally sound.
“In the games that we’ve been able to get pressure and tackle well, those are the games we’ve really played well on defense.”
CMU offense: “Our two best offensive players, arguably, are (wide receiver) Titus Davis and (running back) Thomas Rawls. At different times of the year we lost both of them to injuries of different sorts, but I think we’ll have them both 100 percent healthy for this game.
“We try to be balanced. There were several games this year where we’ve had over 200 yards rushing and over 200 yards passing and that’s kind of the formula that we look for offensively. When we’re able to run the football, that makes us pretty good.”
Quarterback Cooper Rush: “He’s a sophomore and he’s completed about 65 percent of his passes. He had very, very solid year for us and he just continues to get better overall as he gets older.
“I’m very excited because he has a couple years left. He’s very smart, very cerebral guy. Makes good decisions and really does a lot for us in the run game as well.”
2014 season: “Finished 5-3 in our league, beat a Big Ten team – we play a very, very tough nonconference schedule year-in and year-out and I thought our players handled it very well.
“We had some key injuries to some very good players and we handled that. I thought the guys played very well and thought we were a play or two away from being a 7-1 team in our league and playing for a conference championship.
“I thought the guys battled, I thought we had a very good year and now we get to go to the Bahamas.”
WKU: “Obviously their quarterback’s very good. The offensive line’s good. Very good skill. Very talented offensive football team.
“Defense is very multiple, getting in and out of a lot of different looks. They play very hard and you can tell they’re very well-coached.”
