UPDATE: Bowling Green Police have identified the woman killed at the train crossing today as Andrea Hall. Her age and town of residence have not been made public at this time.

A Bowling Green cab driver was completing paperwork this morning in an empty parking lot near Emmett Avenue and Creason Street when he saw a railroad crossing arm come down, heard a train whistle and then just as quickly heard the train grind to halt.

He didn’t know why the northbound CSX train had stopped and shook his head when he learned that a woman had intentionally stepped in front of the locomotive.

Bowling Green police were called to the tracks at 7:23 a.m. after the woman was struck and killed by the train, Bowling Green police spokesman Ronnie Ward said.

The crossings at Emmett and Robinson avenues will be closed until police finish processing the scene, Ward said. 

The woman was struck on the tracks just feet from Emmett Avenue. Yellow evidence markers were placed in a cluster along the tracks near the point of impact.

At 9:20 a.m., the Warren County Coroner’s Office searched through brush near the tracks and pulled a gurney close by.

As of press time, police had not released the woman’s identity or age. 

“The crossing arm came down, and I heard the whistle,” said the cab driver who would only identify himself as Mike. “As he pulled up, I heard him applying the brakes.”

Mike stood with another cab driver this morning watching police gather evidence.

Martha Watt, who lives near the scene, came outside to sit on her front porch this morning and saw the emergency vehicles. She didn’t see or hear anything except the usual train whistle she has grown accustomed to hearing, living so near the tracks.

William Chunn, who lives about a block away on Bellevue Avenue, was walking to the store this morning when he heard about the incident.

He walks through the area everyday.

“That’s terrible,” Chunn said.
