Hot Rods fall at Lansing

The Bowling Green Hot Rods couldn’t finish off a series win Monday at Lansing (Mich.), falling 6-5 to the Lugnuts in the rubber match of the three-game series.
Kellen Sweeney’s RBI single in the ninth capped a comeback for Lansing (45-60, 13-23) and dropped the Hot Rods to 63-42, 24-13 in the second half.

Bowling Green built a 3-0 lead in the first, getting a two-run single from Luke Maile and an RBI double from Marty Gantt. Lansing rallied to tie the game with three runs in the second, but the Hot Rods regained the advantage when Andrew Toles scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
The Lugnuts tied the score 4-4 on a Dalton Pompey homer in the fifth before BG regained the edge 5-4 on an RBI single by Gantt in the seventh.
Lansing rallied again, tying the score on a Santiago Nessy double in the eighth before winning the game in walk-off fashion.
Chris Hawkins started the ninth with a triple off BG reliever Jose Molina and scored on Sweeney’s single.
Molina (3-3) allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Gantt, Tyler Goeddel and Leonardo Reginatto each had two hits. while Maile drove in a pair of runs.

Bowling Green will head to Dayton (Ohio) to finish the road trip with a two-game series with the Dragons starting at 6 p.m. CDT today. Lefty Blake Snell (3-7, 4.14) will start for the Hot Rods, opposing Dayton righty Nick Travieso (5-3, 5.24).
The Hot Rods return home at 7:05 p.m. Thursday to host Dayton.
