Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer discussed ways the Department of Agriculture is trying to promote agriculture products and see more jobs created in the food industry today during a speech in Bowling Green.

Speaking at a summer meeting today of the Agribusiness Association of Kentucky and the Kentucky Feed and Grain Association at the Sloan Convention Center, Comer talked specifically about the Udderly Kentucky milk program, which was officially launched last month.

The program consists of milk produced by Kentucky dairy farmers and processed at the Prairie Farms Dairy in Somerset,  he said.

Udderly Kentucky products are now sold in 32 cities through Wal-Mart, and other stores have expressed interest in selling the products.

“They can’t keep the milk on the shelves,” Comer said.

Comer said after the speech that jobs can be created in the state if food is not only produced in the state but also processed here instead of being shipped to other areas for processing.
