Bernard S. Fullen

BOWLING GREEN – Bernard S. Fullen, 103, of Bowling Green, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his residence. The Salt Sulphur Springs, WV native was the son of the late Delilah Ashworth Fullen and John Elmer Fullen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Fullen (Frances Fullen) and John Fullen (Marguerite Fullen); a sister, Oretha Vass (Fred Vass); and a sister-in-law, Wanda Miller.

Mr. Fullen was a graduate of Bowling Green Business University with a BS degree in higher accounting. He was a former member of the National Society of Public Accountants and was a former Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of JR. Food Stores, INC.

He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully for many years. Mr. Fullen honorably served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asia-Pacific Theater for which he received one Bronze Star Medal. His other notable medals he achieved during his time of duty were the American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Virginia Fullen; a son, David L. Fullen; a daughter, Carol A. Fullen; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at the funeral home and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
