1st Franklin-Simpson HoF class is inducted

The first class of the Franklin-Simpson Hall of Fame was inducted Feb. 28, said Simpson County Superintendent James Flynn in a news release.

•Ronald Wayne Clark, a Western Kentucky University basketball standout under coach E.A. Diddle (1953-1957) and principal of Franklin-Simpson High School (1962-1966). He was a WKU Board of Regents member (1974-1990), president of Franklin Bank and Trust (1988-1993), a devoted sports booster for Franklin-Simpson High School and Franklin mayor beginning in 2011, with his term ending in 2014.

•David Leon Mooneyhan was a graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School in 1965 and received a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. He has been the director of vocational education and assistant superintendent for Simpson County Schools and has served as superintendent of the Fulton County and Shelby County schools. He is the chief executive officer of the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative.

•Dr. David Wayne Patterson was the youngest of 20 children growing up in Franklin and was valedictorian of Franklin-Simpson High School in 1977. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1985 and is a past chief resident of the George Washington University Internal Medicine. He’s a clinical professor of medicine for the George Washington University Medical Center and has 24 years of private practice in downtown Washington, D.C. He has been named a “Top Doctor” and to “Best Doctors in America,” and established the Alice and V. K. Patterson Scholarship at Vanderbilt University.

•Kenny Perry: Attended Franklin-Simpson Schools and is a member of the PGA Tour and Champions Tour with 19 tour victories. He also was a member of the 2004 and 2008 Ryder Cup teams and a member of the 1996, 2003, 2005 and 2009 Presidents Cup teams. He has achieved a Top Ten world ranking in golf.
