Josh Mitcham, artist and founder of BigHead Studios in Brandenburg, Kentucky, will be featured in the Houchens Gallery of the Capitol Arts Center from April 18th through June 7th, 2013.

Mitcham’s passion for visual arts dates back to his childhood, but only became a professional endeavor in the fall of 2011. He spent most of the last decade devoting his talent and time to his love of music, but has refocused his talent back to painting. Josh has a love of all things Kentucky and prefers to use reclaimed canvases. His bold interpretations usually include iconic figures and places that have made a lifelong impact on his creative vision.

Josh has completed numerous murals and commission work, and has most recently begun live painting engagements. Twenty-five percent of all of his earnings from public shows and sales are donated to selected charities and organizations in Kentucky. Josh has sold many pieces through Maker’s Mark Distillery and has multiple pieces on display at the Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. He also has 24 murals on display in Louisville in association with the Louisville Center for Neighborhoods.

“Josh Mitcham wants us to meet some of his cultural heroes that are currently on display in the Houchens Gallery. His humor is present in his “Jack and Coke” series featuring notables like Jackie Robinson, Jack Nicholson and Jack White on the bottom of vintage Coca-Cola® crates. His style will conjure up Pop Art memories while keeping the bluegrass in mind with Kentucky favorites like Bill Monroe, Abraham Lincoln and Muhammad Ali,” said Andee Rudloff, SKyPAC’s Education and Visual Arts Director.

The Houchens Gallery is located in the Capitol Arts Center at 416 E. Main Street and is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments for gallery tours can be scheduled by calling Megan Federico at 270-904-5019.
