Hilltoppers add transfer quarterback McIvor, wideout Mack

Western Kentucky’s football program announced the signings of wide receiver Jairus Mack and quarterback Maverick McIvor on Monday.

The two join a group of 23 new Hilltoppers already announced as part of the 2025 signing class. The class now features 13 offensive players.

Mack comes to WKU after spending the last four seasons at Charlotte, where he appeared in 35 games with 14 starts. He finished his career with the 49ers with 51 receptions for 959 yards and three touchdowns. In his final season at Charlotte in 2024, he posted 19 catches for 418 yards, and the year prior he tallied 453 yards and two scores on 25 catches, finishing second in the AAC and 24th in the FBS with an average of 18.12 yards per catch. He did not see any game action in 2022 and redshirted, after appearing in 11 games with two starts during his true freshman season in 2021, when he caught seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Mack prepped at Clarke Central High School in Georgia, where he was considered a three-star recruit by 247Sports and a two-star prospect by Rivals. During his career at Clarke Central, he scored 29 touchdowns and racked up 2,769 receiving yards on his way to being named the Region 8-5A Player of the Year twice.

McIvor transfers to WKU after spending three seasons at Abilene Christian, where he was one of the top players at the FCS level. Over three seasons with the Wildcats, he threw for 8,012 yards and 63 touchdowns on 655-of-1,089 passing with 21 interceptions. During his final season at Abilene Christian in 2024, McIvor threw for 3,828 yards and 30 touchdowns to seven interceptions on 312-of-499 passing – an average of 294.5 yards through the air per game – while leading his team to the United Athletic Conference title and berth in the FCS playoffs, where the Wildcats beat Northern Arizona in their first game.

He was named a Second Team All-American by FCS Football Central and was an All-UAC First Team selection at quarterback. McIvor ranked fourth in the FCS in total passing yards, fifth in passing yards per game, eighth in total offense, sixth in passing touchdowns, ninth in points responsible for, fourth in total completions and seventh in completions per game. In 2023, he posted 17 touchdowns and 1,972 yards with just five interceptions, and in his first year with the program, McIvor had 2,212 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 60% of his passes.

McIvor arrived at Abilene Christian after three seasons at Texas Tech, where he did not see any game action. McIvor prepped at Central High School in Texas, where he was a three-star quarterback, according to 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. He was the No. 25 quarterback prospect in the nation, as well as the No. 97 player in the state, according to ESPN rankings. He was rated the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the country by 247Sports when he signed with the Red Raiders, and was named one of the top 100 recruits in the country by all three recruiting platforms.

His best season came as a junior, when he threw for 3,415 yards and 43 touchdowns to only eight interceptions, and rushed for 870, accounting for 52 total touchdowns on his way to District 2-6A Offensive MVP honors. He was an Honorable Mention All-State selection by the Associated Press. His senior season ended early with an injury in his second game. As a sophomore, he earned Second Team All-District 2-6A honors as a wide receiver, catching 35 passes for 532 yards and seven scores. He was also the backup quarterback, and tallied 290 yards and three touchdowns. He spent his freshman season at Class 1A Fort Davis High School – a six-man program.

McIvor’s father, Rick, played quarterback at Texas from 1979-83 and was selected 80th overall in the 1984 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
