Hazel Mae McKinley, 85, of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Bowling Green, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 2:35 a.m.

She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Albany. She was a daughter of the late Curtis Shelton and Belva Guffy Shelton. She was raised in Albany and on March 12, 1950, she married Virgil Ray McKinley in Georgia. They were married 49 years until his passing in 1999. She was employed most of her life as a seamstress/tailor. Her most satisfying accomplishment was making wedding gowns and astronauts’ flight suits at NASA in Houston. She loved sewing, gardening, cooking and canning. She was preceded in death by a sister, Emerine Mills and a brother, Donald Shelton. She was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Belinda McKinley Norwood (Ben) of Franklin, Tenn.; a son, John McKinley (Tina) of Shore Acres, Texas; two granddaughters, Sarah and Kathryn McKinley; a sister, Bonnie Hill of Pasadena, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
