GLASGOW — Bowling Green had no patience for Barren County on Friday night.

The Purples (6-0, 1-0 District 2, Class 5A) evoked a running clock with a 48-point first half, cruising to a 58-0 win at BCHS.

The top-ranked team in the state in Class 5A made it 11 straight overall and 11 straight against the Trojans (1-5, 0-1 District 2, Class 5A).

“Right now we’re just trying to look ahead, not looking at the big games,” Bowling Green junior Blake Pillow said. “These games right now have been good to us, but we’ve got to keep playing and keep pushing ahead.”

After Barren County fumbled away the opening kickoff, Devin Hayes hit Allen Gonsalves on the first play from scrimmage, finding the wide receiver out in the right flat. The senior did the rest, sprinting down the sideline and hurdling a defender at the 5-yard line before scoring.

Hayes hooked up with Nacarius Fant for the night’s second score, an 18-yard pitch-and-catch to a wide-open Fant down the left sideline.

Blue Tisdale made it 21-0 before the first quarter ended, weaving and winding through the middle of the BCHS defense for a 16-yard scoring jaunt.

Pillow scored on the first play of the second quarter, taking a handoff to the right after Hayes faked a pitch to the left. Pillow got a key block downfield to go in untouched from 47 yards out and make it 28-0.

Pillow scored again on BG’s next possession on a broken play.

Looking to pass, Hayes was pressured as the pocket collapsed, turned and threw a lateral to the left to Pillow. The running back scooted up the sideline, broke a tackle at midfield and was home free for a 74-yard score.

“He was just trying to get rid of the ball,” Pillow said. “I wasn’t expecting that to happen, but he got it off and I made things happen after that.

Fant made it 41-0 on a 40-yard punt return. Despite allowing the ball to bounce past him, the junior picked it up with his back to the defense, turned and went up the right sideline before cutting back and gliding in for the score, making it 41-0.

On the next play from scrimmage, Logan Paris scooped up a fumble, re-fumbled the ball, then picked it back up simultaneously with teammate Josh Kelly at the Barren County 20. Kelly was credited with the score as the two wrestled with the ball across the goal line, giving the Purples a 48-0 lead before the half.

“I don’t know – I picked it up and tried to get it in,” Paris said. “I’m not sure (who gets the TD). I hope I do.”

In the first half alone, Hayes went 7-for-10 for 81 yards with two TDs and a pick, Tisdale had 89 yards on the ground and Pillow ran for 121 yards and two scores. Bowling Green also turned the ball over three times in the half but held the Trojans to negative yardage in total offense.

“We just wanted to overwhelm them with our speed,” Paris said, “try to pressure the quarterback, get some turnovers. I think we did a good job of that.”

Hunter Hanks kicked a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter and Danny Dewalt ran for a 64-yard score in the fourth to complete the final margin.
