Glad to see old school will be sold

What was once a beautiful landmark building in the heart of downtown Bowling Green that served as a city high school and later a junior high school unfortunately over the years has fallen into disarray.
After the building was sold nearly 10 years ago, several investors have tried to build apartments in the former school. During that time, a historic gymnasium on the school grounds was torn down. Wire fences now surround the building, boards can be seen hanging from an exposed opening on Center Street in the remaining gymnasium and a few apartments behind the school and a few in the structure have been built – that’s about it.
For those who actually went to school there, it is quite a sad sight.
It is quite obvious that the inability to complete the project by previous investors shows that they didn’t really care about what the alumni of the school or the residents of Bowling Green thought.
The former school building started looking so bad from neglect that Operation P.R.I.D.E. posted it as one of the top 10 eyesores in the county.
Hopefully, that’s about to change and we believe it is about time.
The property will be sold at a master commissioner’s sale next month after Bowling Green Capital acquired the note held by Bank of America and asked Warren Circuit Court that the property, still owned by Renaissance Apartments of Ky., to be sold.
This week, Warren County Circuit Court Judge Steve Wilson ordered the sale so that liens on the property can be paid.
There are still some legal issues to deal with, but once they are, the buyer can proceed with plans to finish the project.
Allen Schubert of Louisville, who has extensive experience in turning around apartment complexes, is one of those interested in the property.
What’s great for people like Schubert or whoever the buyer might potentially be is that they can move forward with completing the project free and clear of any liens.
This property is in the heart of our downtown and it is part of our history, which it why we believe it is so important that whoever buys it realizes that and will bring the building back to its former glory.
