Almost two weeks after a man was found dead under suspicious circumstances in an SUV on Morgantown Road, police have arrested someone on a murder charge.
Ali Fadil, 30, of Bowling Green, was booked Thursday night into Warren County Regional Jail following his arrest by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Fadil is accused of causing the death of Michael Scott Lee, 56, of Bowling Green.
Lee’s body was found shortly before 3 a.m. Dec. 22 in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that had struck a utility pole in the 11000 block of Morgantown Road.
According to the sheriff’s office, a passing motorist reported the Jeep off the road at 2:59 a.m., Dec. 22.
When deputies arrived, they found Lee in the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
While conducting its initial investigation, the sheriff’s office determined that Lee’s visible injuries were not consistent with the impact of the vehicle striking the utility pole, WCSO said.
Lee’s body was transported Dec. 23 to Louisville, where an autopsy was performed.
The findings of the autopsy have not been made public.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives learned that Lee was planning to meet an unknown person around 10 p.m. on Dec. 21.
Detectives received a lead on Dec. 23 that suggested Fadil’s involvement, and WCSO detectives working with FBI analysts obtained additional information to substantiate Fadil’s involvement in Lee’s death, WCSO said.
Fadil was arraigned Friday in Warren District Court, where court records indicate a public defender was appointed to represent him and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf to a count of murder.
Warren District Judge John Brown set a $500,000 cash bond for Fadil, who is due back in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.
