Jesse Ellison of Bowling Green, Kentucky, formerly of Williamsburg, Kentucky, departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at the Hospice Center of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was 58 years and 27 days of age. He was born on August 4, 1953 in Corbin, Kentucky to the late, Crayton H. Ellison and Marcia Burnette Ellison. Coach Ellison taught Health and Physical Education at Bowling Green Junior High School for 26 years. He was a graduate of Cumberland College and holds a Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University. He began his coaching career at Williamsburg High School as an Assistant Baseball Coach under Head Coach Gary “Fiery Little Skipper” Stanfill. He was also Assistant Basketball Coach at Whitley County High School under Coach Burr Haynes. He served as Graduate Assistant Basketball Coach at Eastern Kentucky University under Coach Max Good and at Georgetown College under Coach Jim Reid and Coach Happy Osborne. Coach Ellison’s final coaching position was Assistant Coach for 16 years under Head Coach Ernie Simpson at Bowling Green High School.
He is survived by one sister, Cathy “Sis” Williams and her husband J.R. of Gilbert, Arizona; one brother, Crayton “Brush” Ellison and his wife Teresa of Williamsburg, Kentucky; one niece, Rachel Ellison of Williamsburg, Kentucky; one nephew, Jacob West and his wife, Angie, and their children Baylee and Jaxen, all of Williamsburg, Kentucky; special caregivers, Mary Ann and Gary Stanfill and Teresa and Sarah Kersey; his aunt, Barbara Wasano and her husband, Stan, of Williamsburg, Kentucky; one uncle, Jack Ellison and his wife, Peggy, of Williamsburg, Kentucky; many cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at the J.C. Kirby Funeral Home, Broadway Chapel in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Mullins and Coach Tim Riley officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Highland Cemetery in Williamsburg.
