American Coon Hunters Association World Hunt at Dry Fork

A world class event is again taking place in the Dry Fork community of Barren County this week and that is the 64th Annual American Coon Hunters Association (ACHA) World Championship Hunt hosted by the Dry Fork Coon Hunters Club. Last year, the group held the Championship Hunt at Dry Fork and were so pleased with the hunting conditions, the job done by the local hosts and the hospitality received from the local community, that they made a decision to hold the event here again in 2011.

The Championship Hunt officially begins on Tuesday, March 29, at 4pm. The coon hunts continue on Wednesday-Saturday. A schedule of events can be viewed online at www.worldhunt.org  It’s an interesting event to watch (and hear) as groups of dogs search the woods for a raccoon and then tree it. Other activities are offered such as puppy competitions, youth hunts, bench shows, and coon hunting demonstrations. It’s also a good place to purchase hunting dogs and equipment and to learn about coon hunting. Several local hunters participated last year and will return again this year. They include Doug Read, Glen Shelton, Ashley Hopkins, Jimmy Oakes, Bruce Steadman, Farrell Matthews, and Joe and Scott Browning.
