Squirrels on the Square, a marketing tool designed to bring people downtown, is starting to catch on.
“We had a little girl who dragged her mom around the square on Friday and Saturday and she found all of them,” Michael Barron, president of the Downtown Business Association, said today at the group’s meeting.

Twelve ceramic squirrels are hiding in 12 of the 19 downtown participating merchants.
Clues about where they can be found are appearing in the Daily News and on the squirrels’ Facebook page.
The name of anyone who finds at least six of the squirrels will be entered into a prize drawing at the end of the month.
Squirrel card stamps can be found at participating merchants, including Barbara Stewart Interiors, BB&T, Bella Me Salon, Candle Makers on the Square, Dollar Brothers Shoe Co., Golden Farley Mens Shop, Himalayan Handcrafted Rugs, Invitations on Main, Mariah’s, Morris Jewelry, Renaissance Hair Design, Spencer’s Coffee House, The Gallery at 916, The Place of Macs & More, The Pots Place, Untied Furniture and Alliances, Verdi Restaurant, Zebra Graphics and Zingarella.
In other downtown news, the Downtown Redevelopment Authority is seeking more sponsors for its Concerts in the Park series.
“We are extending the concerts through August, so there will be 13 of them,” said DRA member Kyda West.
