In observance of National Train Day, May 7, Mother’s Day, May 8, and National Tourism Week May 7-15, the Historic RailPark & Train Museum will be offering half-price museum admission tickets Sunday, May 8, free admission to Mom, and a free movie.
“National Train Day was created by Amtrak four years ago to promote awareness of rail transportation. The Saturday closest to May 10 is the official date of the celebration. May 10 was the date the Golden Spike was driven at Promontory Point, Utah to complete the Transcontinental Railroad. Many railroad museums nationwide have used National Train Day to develop programs to raise historical awareness of the railroad”, states Sharon Tabor, Executive Director of the Historic RailPark & Train Museum.
“May 7-15 is also National Tourism Week. The Historic RailPark will have a display at the Franklin, KY I-65 Welcome Center on National Train Day, Saturday, May 7, from 9-12 . This year we are expanding the event to include a special treat for Mom. Kids can bring their Mom to the RailPark where they will receive half price admission and Mom receives a complimentary pass”, she states. “This year’s admission will also include a free movie for the family to enjoy. “The Great Train Robbery” , rated G, is about a group of kids, an engineer, and a dog who team up to save Locomotive 587 from the scrap heap.” The movie will be shown at 1:30pm.
The Historic RailPark is open Monday – Saturday, 9-5 and Sunday 1-4pm.
