Miranda Pederson/Daily NewsVan Pinnock, the general manager for InShuttle out of Nashville, hands out flyers Wednesday at Western Kentucky University for the company that is now offering shuttle service to Nashville International Airport.

Western Kentucky University’s airport shuttle is back, with a new provider for the service beginning this week.

The university has had a service to take the campus community to and from Nashville International Airport on and off for about five years, but there have been months-long gaps in the service as several providers didn’t work out, said Dennis Cain, transportation analyst for WKU’s Parking and Transportation Services.

PTS believes the new provider, InShuttle, will work – the company has more than 15 years of experience and has only positive reviews from customers, Cain said.

“We’re really hoping this becomes a long-term service,” he said.

Reservations for the shuttle are made online at www.inshuttle.com/wku. Arrangements must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and users can have the shuttle pick them up at four different campus locations at several times throughout the day.

The cost is $50 for students each way and $70 for employees. The service isn’t open to the general public.

“We subsidize the student cost,” Cain said.

The website went live Monday, and 25 people signed up within the first 48 hours, he said.

“It shows there is a need for getting people back and forth between the airport,” Cain said.

About 90 percent of those who used the shuttle service in the past were international students, he said. It’s also helpful for visiting professors and students without cars.

“With a growing number of international students, there’s more and more of a need for this service,” Cain said.

A launch party for InShuttle was Wednesday in Downing University Center, where students and employees could tour a shuttle, ask questions and learn about the service and enter a raffle to win items, including a suitcase and travel supplies.

PTS went “above and beyond” for the launch, because they’re excited about InShuttle, Cain said.

“We’re really wanting to publicize it and make it visible right off the bat,” he said.
