The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted three-year accreditation with commendation to the cancer program at Greenview Regional Hospital.

“Greenview received the designation following the on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which our facility demonstrated a commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program,” such as cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement, CEO Mark Marsh said in a news release.

In addition, the facility received a compliance rating for all other standards.

Established in 1922 by the American College of Surgeons, the Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality care.

Houchins gets employment honor

Experience Works, the nation’s largest nonprofit training and employment organization for older workers, has honored Traci Houchins of Bowling Green for her outstanding service to older workers.

Houchins recently received the organization’s Changing Lives award, which recognizes her efforts to help low-income older workers obtain the training they need to find good jobs in their communities.

“We’re very proud to recognize Traci Houchins’ outstanding efforts to assist older individuals who desperately need to find jobs,” Billy Wooten, executive director of program operations for Experience Works, said in a news release. “The current economic situation has forced many older people to look for employment, and Traci is dedicated to helping them retool and re-enter the workforce. Unfortunately, recent federal budget cuts have slashed funding for the Senior Community Service Employment Program 45 percent over last year so there are long waiting lists for services. That makes Traci’s achievements even more vital to both seniors and employers.”

A nonprofit organization, Experience Works offers community service and employment services in Kentucky, 29 other states and Puerto Rico through the Senior Community Service Employment Program. The community-based program helps low-income older individuals serve their communities, upgrade their employment skills and get a job.
