GLASGOW — The Rev. William Richard Staples, 92, of Glasgow, died July 2, 2011, at his residence.
The Barren County native was a retired farmer and a Baptist minister. He had preached in more than 150 churches in Barren County and surrounding areas. He was also a World War II Army veteran. He was a son of the late Tom Staples and Cora Shader Staples. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Pam Fox Staples; two brothers, Earl Thomas Staples and J.P. Staples; and a sister, Mary Lee Groce.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Ronald McDonald House or a favorite charity.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; two sons, Kenneth Staples and his wife, Betty, and Tommy Staples and his wife, Rita, all of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Tommy Staples Jr. and his wife, Tina, Kim Forbis and her husband, Tommy, and Lee Ann Moore, all of Glasgow, and Mikki Owens and her husband, Aaron, of Sumter, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Quentin, Tyler and Kalei Staples, Taylor Moore, Lindsey Forbis and Mason, Jacob and Michael Owens; three sisters, Velma Smith, Frances Garner and Doris Warf, all of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.
