Heard any good stories lately? If you live in Horse Cave, the answer is undoubtedly YES! Horse Cave is a community of stories and storytellers. Now everyone be able to listen to local residents sharing their stories anytime they want – and visitors can hear the stories, too. In fact, the residents of Horse Cave are hoping that the stories will lure more visitors than ever to their downtown cultural district.

On Sunday, January 23, Horse Cave will be celebrating the launch of a cell phone walking tour. Horse Cave’s cell phone tour is unique because it is linked to a website with lots more stories – facts, fiction and folklore from pre-history through the present, as well as a wealth of historic photos. “We always like to do things a little bigger and better in Horse Cave!” says Horse Cave Mayor Randall Curry.

“This isn’t your grandmother’s walking tour,” adds Sandra Wilson, executive director of the Hart County Tourist Commission. “The stories are fun and sassy and the website is accessible on smart phones during the tour or on your home or office computers. You’ll be able to either dial up on your cell phone for short information or use your smart phone to scan codes on the tour signs to go directly to the website to see old photos and hear more great stories about feuds, basketball, cave wars and more.”

“You can tell what an exciting concept we have developed by looking at the list of sponsors that joined Horse Cave Development Corporation in this undertaking,” says HCDC president Ken Russell. “Come join us in celebration from 2:30 – 4 pm at the Thomas House 111 East Main Street for refreshments, Horse Cave trivia contests, and of course, stories!”

Sponsors include the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Humanities Council, Bluegrass Cellular, the Kentucky Folklife Program and the Kentucky Oral History Commission. For more information, phone (270) 218-0386.
